Guide: How to download and update to iOS 6

For those of you who are using apple devices, well iOS 6 is out. This allows you to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Although, it depends if you want to update your iOS device now or you might want to hear more reviews first on how it performs. But for those of you who are willing to take the plunge here's what you need to do. First you need to know if you have a compatible device.

Here's a list of compatible devices:

  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4 and 4S
  • The New iPad
  • iPad 2
  • iPod Touch 4G

Note: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 2 and iPod Touch 4G has limited functionality.

If your device is in the list then let's proceed on how to update. There are two ways to update either Over the Air or via iTunes.

Over the Air:
  1. Make sure your battery is fully charged.
  2. Backup your device. (This is just a precautionary measure)
  3. Go to Settings.
  4. Select General Tab.
  5. Select Software Update.
  6. After it shows iOS 6, tap the button Download and Install.
  7. Wait for the update to download and install. Don't do anything with your device until it's done.

 Via iTunes:
  1. Connect your device to your PC.
  2. Open iTunes
  3. Backup your device. (This is just a precautionary measure)
  4. iTunes will tell you that an update is available.
  5. Confirm that you want to install it.
  6. Wait for the update to download and install. Don't do anything with your device until it's done.
Important: When the update is finished your device will reboot. After that just go through some initial settings and your done. You now have iOS 6.

Disclaimer: I will not be held liable if in any circumstances your device malfunctions. All procedures are standard to downloading and installing updates. Proceed at your own risk.
